recovering an autorecovery autosaved document

W

wcoldwell

I was working on a document on my trial version and it was only saved through
the autosave. My daughter accidentally closed the doc which ended my trial.
I have now bought and installed Microsoft 07 and have found the document, but
when I try to open in Word it gives me the message "Microsoft Office Word
cannot open this file because it is an unsupported document". Does anybody
know how to recover this document?

Thank you!

Hi Wendy,

The only document you have then is a .ASD (Automatic Save Document), rather than a .WBK (Word Backup) document?

What version of Windows are you using. Some folks are able to open the ASD files by right clicking on it and using Open
With=>Microsoft Word, others get that type of message. (Make a safety copy of it before attempting to work with it too much).

Was/is Office 2007 the only version of Office/Word on this computer?

If you're on Windows XP and in Windows Explorer you check
Tools=>Folder Options=>File Types
is there a .ASD entry
and if so what program is it linked with?
