recovering or overriding password requirement

I am trying to create a new database, however when I
choose a template or blank database and save it on my
computer, I am asked for a password. It has been a long
time since I used the password and cannot remember it. I
have tried everything that I ever use and none of them
will allow me to save it. I looked in the help index and
was informed that passwords cannot be recovered except by
an administrator of the database (that's me). If there
was an actual database in existence, I could understand
not being able to change it, but I want to start a new
one from scratch. I now feel like I just have this extra
program on my computer that is just taking up space. Any
suggestions??? Sorry this is so long.

You are joined by default to a workgroup where the Admin user has a
password.

You can search your computer for all mdw files. Hopefully you find more
than just system.mdw. Use the workgroup administrator (tools, security
menu) to see which one you are currently joined to, and rejoin the
system.mdw. If you only have the one mdw file, try renaming it and starting
Access. It should create a new pristine system.mdw file for you.

Joan,

Thank you for your assistance however I am still not having any luck with
the password issue. I have even gone as far as reinstalling Access, but that
did not help either. Any other suggestions?

How many mdw files did you find on your system?

Did you try joining system.mdw? Does that still require a password?

If so, then rename it to system1.mdw, and start Access.

You are referring to a username/password login, and not just a password,
right?

What version of Access?
