recovering overwritten document

Hello,
Well, I committed a blunder that I hope is reversible. I
was using one document as a model for a similar document,
but saved it after I had made changes. I didn't rename the
document before I saved and now I'm wondering if there is
anyway of recovering the previous version.

An example of my blunder: I opened letter1.doc using it to
create a second letter, but hit "save" instead of "save as"
and didn't rename it. How can I get the original text on
letter1.doc?

Well, you probably can't. Unless you (a) haven't closed the file or (b) have
"Automatically create backup copy" enabled on the Save tab of Tools |
Options. In case (a), just Undo till you get back to square one, Save As,
then Redo. In case (b), look for the "Backup of letter1.wbk" file in the
same folder (you'll need to display All Files to see it), and that will be
the previous version.

If you're using letter1.doc as a template, why not save it as letter1.dot, a
real template? Then you can base new documents on it and always be forced to
Save As.

Try the program from www.RecoverMyFiles.com. Remember to add you temporary
folders to the search. You may find the original.
