Dear all,

I have had a corrupt Entourage database for some time (10 GB). It will not rebuild and my perception is that he reason is that the address book has a corrupt entry. There is a greyed-out entry or entries that can not be removed as the database repair function kicks in as soon as I come near the entry.

Now I want to upgrade to Office 2008 and I want to have a working database before I do so. Can I do something to keep the entries in the address book (1400)? I seem not to be able to export only selected entries. I can cut the functioning entries out, and paste them into a Word document, but I do not know how to reformat to get the entries into an importable text file for 2008.

If I am able to get he entries out for later import, can I delete the address book so that I can rebuild the database before trying to upgrade?

Any suggestions gladly invited.

Best regards,

Johan

What happens when you try to export your contacts as an Entourage archive
(.rge) file? If you can export, select to delete all after exporting THEN
import the file back into Entourage.

What happens when you try Export as a tab delimited file?

It includes tips on how to rebuild a database using a large drive.

Dear Diane,

Thank you for your suggestions. I finally found that I could export the non-corrupt entries in the address book to a tab delimited file. I changed the category of the non-corrupt entries to a new category and then I exported only this category.

However, when I then upgraded to Office 2008 the address book was imported without corruption. However, there were a number of interruptions due to a corrupt database when importing. All messages seem to have gone through but the new database will still not rebuild properly.

But, the status of the database still seems to be better after upgrading than before.

Best regards,

Johan

I've seen many reports of imported databases into Entourage 2008 as
problematic. If you export the data into a new Entourage 2008 Identity then
you will find it rock solid. The Entourage archive (.rge) file export is the
quickest one.

How to manually move your data. (when import fails and/or you need to move
to a new Identity same version or revert to an older version)

If you want to verify your current database see this article for a 3 step
process. After you complete the process, you'll have confidence in your data
plus you'll have some great backups.
