rectangle does not copy

I copied a picture into a visio document. I then added a shaded rectangle.
Save the vsd. I did a select all, copy, paste into Word document. The
picture copies but the shaded rectangle does not. I also tried to group the
selections, but that did not work either. I am looking to copy the picture
and shaded rectangle into Word.

Is the shaded rectangle on a background page?
Is it just completely covered by the picture?
When you right click the dwg. in WORD and open it: Is the rectangle visible
then?
So even grouping fails? Or can you group but not copy?
If you want you can send me that sample file, so I can doublecheck.
