Recurring Appointment Changes

I have a number of recurring appointments that I would
like to make modifications to without loosing my
exceptions (Ones I have modified, deleted, etc)...

For example

I have a recurring meeting for every 2 weeks that ends at
the end of July... I would like to extend the end date to
the end of Oct...

I have another appointment that happens monthly that has
no end date... I would like to set an end date of August
31...

Can I just make changes to the recurring appointment
through a script/program change without lossing the
execptions?

Can you explain how an execption works within a recurring
appointment
