Recurring appointments archive Outlook 2003

There is no indication when performing an archive that recurring items like
bithdays are not included. I am meticulous at backing up etc. and thought I
was doing the same with Outlook.
However I recently suffered a computer virus problem and had to format my
boot drive and reinstall everything.
That’s when I discovered the major fault as I see it in the Outlook archive
system. I have now lost all my recurring calendar events (foolishly I trusted
that I did not need my old list in Excel and had deleted it!) so now I will
have to start again asking people when their important dates are.
I suggest a very clear auto message should be displayed when archiving that
recurring events are not included and cannot be backed up.
Needless to say I will not be putting my recurring events back into Outlook.

I'm not sure why you think archiving and backing up have anything to do with
each other. They're not the same thing at all. In fact, they aren't even
related.

If you had had a backup you would have lost nothing.

What makes you think recurring events can't be backed up?

Archiving is not the same as backing up. Archiving is removing old items
from your current mailbox and placing them in a different folder, just in
case you ever need to reference them again.

My husband refers to archives as "a basement for email" because it's like
all the junk we put in the basement when we no longer use it - he knows the
chances are great he'll never need the stuff in the archive and probably
should just throw it out to start.

Thank you for your reply.
It is however of no help to me, not only is it patronising it is almost rude.
If there is a way of backing up recurring appointments or indeed the whole
of the calendar then I have been unable to find how to do it and if you were
unable or unwilling to enlighten me then it was pointless posting a reply.

In what way did you find the reply patronizing? I used no pejorative terms
and I stated facts. Facts are never patronizing.

How to back up Oultook is posted in the newsgroups every day. Google is
your friend.
