Recurring appointments not editable

On a laptop computer the recurring appointments can be created but not be
edited. However, changes can be made to those appointments from other
computers on the domain using the 'same' profile.
We have re-created the profile & the profile appears to be the same as on
the desktop computers.
The error received is "...You do not have permission to modify some or all
of the items in this folder" We have OWNER status to this folder.
If you attempt to open the recurring appointment you get the error message
"Cant open this item. The operation failed. An object could not be found" and
yet we can see the item.
The calendar is in a public folder
