Recurring Appt - Deleted occurence doesn't go to Deleted Items

Outlook 2002, SP2
If I delete an occurence of a recurring appointment, it does not go to
Deleted Items, but if I delete the whole series, it goes to Deleted Items.
Is there a way to make it show up in Deleted Items if just an occurence is
deleted or is this by design?
