Red X instead of tables

Romina

I have updated office x to version 10.1.6 and still get big red Xs
instead of what should be word tables in documents emailed to me by a
colleague. The tables appear normal on his Dell PC as well as his
iMAC. No one else is having this problem with his files. I have never
had the problem before. When I click on the X it brings up the
formatting pallette for pictures so for some reason the word table has
been converted to a picture which is not displaying on my screen. Can
anyone help?

It looks like the table are being recognized as pictures that cannot be
displayed. Here are some things to try/find out:

(a) What version of WinWord is your colleague using?
(b) Are the tables in his document Word tables or imported as graphics from,
say, Excel?
(c) If they are graphics, your options aren't so great - you could try
having him reimport them in a different format, or (if from Excel) trying to
import them as tables instead of graphics (paste special). Otherwise, maybe
send you the table in Excel format and you can do the importing.
(d) If the tables are real Word tables, have your colleage save his docs as
rtf and send those to you (see what happens)

Please let me know how this goes,

It would appear that Endnote is the problem. When I removed the 2
offending files from the word startup folder everything appears
normally. This is a pain however as I am constantly putting the 2 files
in and taking them out of the startup folder. Why can't a patch be
created to fix this?

Hi Rob
Seems it is the Endnote files in the word startup folder. When I remove
them all is normal. Is there a patch available to overcome this issue?
cheers

Ask ISI/Thomson for a patch. They won't make one, since EndNote 8 is now
out, but you can complain to them anyhow. (By the way, does anyone know if
EndNote 8 causes the Red X problem still?)

Romina, I have an applescript from OS 9 that moves the files for me with
just a couple of clicks, which I'm sure you could adapt for your purposes.
Once you set it up it's then pretty easy to move the files.

And are you using EndNote 6 or 7, just out of curiosity? Or are you seeing
this with EndNote 8?
