redact in a Word document

Is there a way to redact text or images in Word?

Meaning? What do you want to do, put black lines over them? As long as
they're in a Word file, they'll still be there.

What version of Word are you using? If you are using Word 2007 then there's
a Redaction add-in you can use:
http://blogs.msdn.com/microsoft_office_word/archive/2008/09/22/a-word-2007-redaction-tool.aspx

For Word 2003 here's a link to the add-in but most have been unsuccessful
using it. Unfortunately if you encounter an error when running it there's
little you can do:

Note that either add-in will redact the content. They replace each character
with a black box (or shading - I don't recall) but it's a replacement and
not a format or overlay. Once it's redacted the original content will be
removed from the document and no longer contained in the document. IOW, the
content will not still be there.
