Redirect Help

I manage a website for our local Red Cross Chapter, using FP2000. The
chapter has been required to merge their website with the regional site, but
the old web pages are still up and running. Is there an efficient way for me
to redirect viewers who wander in to any page at
www.oldsite.org/**anypage**.htm to the Home page at www.newsite.org? The
individual web pages have changed significantly, so it's not possible for me
to do a page-by-page direct refer from www.oldsite.org/pageXX.htm to
www.newsite.org/pageXX.htm

Hope that makes some sense. I'm not sure where to begin and would appreciate
any guidance and suggestions.

Thanks,
JW

It can be set up through the domain registrar to redirect. Check with them.

There should be some php or asp code to popuplate all the pages on the old
site... and redirect them to the hompeage of the new .. I would also make a
404 page that directs people to the new site by a link not a redirect.

look for some script redirect code

you should be using a 301 redirect if your server allows it.

Try and follow all the backlinks and ask them to change to your new link ..
in fact have a page that outlines what to do and the code you can point
them too.

make sure you clear each page of actual content or you will have duplicate
content concerns..

really this is not ideal ... and not the way it should be done but best you
can do in the circumstances..
