Reducing document size

Is there a way I can reduce the file size of a already
created document. Lets say I have a word document that is
6 megs, done and finished. Is there a way I can reduce
that size, without losing the integrity of the document. I
know I convert it to a PDF. format, but I would like to
keep it in word format..thanks

Using SaveAs to save it to another name can help.

There are a number of reasons for excessive file size, including:

1. Fast Saves: Disable this at on the Save tab of Tools | Options.

2. Preview Picture: Clear the check box on the Summary tab of File |
Properties.

3. Versions (File | Versions): Make sure "Automatically save version on
close" is not turned on.

4. Revisions (Tools | Track Changes):
Highlight Changes: Make sure "Highlight changes on screen" is turned on.
Accept/Reject Changes: If "Accept All" or "Reject All" is available then
revisions are present; accept or reject all changes, then turn Track Changes
off.

5. Embedded True Type fonts (Tools | Options | Save)

6. Embedded graphics: When feasible, it is preferable to link the graphics.

I don't know if you're talking about a corrupted document or just one that is
very big, like a book. I've reduced the size of documents by reducing the font
size. Also reducing margins. The default left and right are one and a half
inches. Change them to a half inch and it can make a big difference in a long
document.
