Reducing figures in Word 97

Hello. I've been sent some 'figures' done by someone else
which I have to reduce in size by about 20%. The figures
are a bit of a mess, with textboxes and autoshapes and
lines going everywhere. I've tried to reduce them by
selecting and grouping all the bits, and then grabbing a
corner and pushing it in (holding down the Ctrl to keep
the proportions) but it hasn't been very successful: the
components don't keep their relative distances from one
another, they jump around, etc.
I really don't want to have to re-draw them - is there any
simple way to reduce them without everything going
catawampus?

Any advice appreciated.

Hi Carol,

When the items are grouped copy them to the
clipboard then use Insert=>Picture=>New Drawing
to open a MS Draw or MS Picture canvas then paste
the collection there. (You may need to download
the MS Draw 98 add in from
http://office.microsoft.com/downloads )
Click back into Word then resize the canvas and
see if that keeps the proportions for you.

Hi Bob - I'm working in Word 2000 now and I can't seem to
find Insert=>Picture=>New Drawing.

Hi Carol,

The MS Draw add-in is installed from CD#2 of
Office 2000. I don't recall (it's been awhile <g>)
if after installing if I had to use Tools=>Customize=>Commands
to drag that New Drawing command to the
Insert=>Picture menu manually or not.

You can check to see if there is a Microsoft Draw
(installed) feature by looking at the list in
Insert=>Object.
