Reducing Slideshow File Size

G

Gloria

I teach senior citizens how to make slideshows in PowerPoint 2003 with
embedded .wav music files. Problem is, the .wav files are HUGE and with all
the image files inserted, the resulting slideshow file size is enormous &
often much too large to send via email.

Yet I receive PPT slideshows-with-music attachments to emails that are no
bigger than 200kb. I would appreciate knowing how someone creates a
slideshow with music that is under 200kb.

Also, when I save one of those <200kb slideshows as a webpage, the sum total
of the image and sound files that process produces is much bigger than 200kb.
How is that possible?

I need to produce slideshows with music that aren't huge.

Thank you!

Gloria,
I would start with the advice in this entry from the PPT FAQ:
Why are my PowerPoint files so big? What can I do about it?
http://pptfaq.com/FAQ00062.htm

Then, I would check to see how high the quality is on the WAV files. You can
greatly reduce the file size by changing the files from stereo to mono and
reducing the quality of the music. I recommend using a free product called
Audacity (http://audacity.sourceforge.net/) for editing the WAV files.

Post back and let us know if that gets the sizes reduced enough.

Thanks for a fast, comprehensive answer, Kathy! I do appreciate your advice.
I've downloaded Audacity & copied the advice from the PPT FAQ. I'll read, do,
try, and let you know how everything works. Thanks again!

If you are looking for a solution not only to reduce the files size of
sound but also the whole presentation, you can try this solution-
Convert PowerPoint to flash to reduce the fiel size by 90%

Although you can use some tools to adjust Images, graphics, pictures
and audio in PowerPoint for a samller size, you will still have
quality loss to some degree. Maybe troublesoem and ask for a long time
to do it.
Conversion to flash may be eaiser. And you will need a powerpoint to
flash converter like
