Refedit (can't get to work at all)

I'm very new to userforms, and still trying to find my way.
This is annoying the hell out of me.

I'm wanting to use a Refedit, in a bid to make a simple userform that will
add everything in the selection together.

Whenever I try and use a Refedit and activate the userform the button on it
does nothing. Not only that, but the RefEdit seems to always be active,
changing when I select an area on the spreadsheet.
There seems to be no way of getting out of it either, and i'm stuck with a
userform on the screen that I can't get rid of, and the only way to get out
of it seems to be to reboot the computer.

Is there something obvious i'm missing? is there a setting that must be set
before a RefEdit will work correctly and not screw up the sheet? or is there
a built in setting that I need to turn off?

I had a look at that, and followed the instructions for using Refedit in a
userform. Including copying and pasting the code for the command button.

I hit F5 and it did indeed let me choose an area, then when I presses the
command button it coloured the selection red and finished.

Then I went into excel and ran the macro that opens the userform (just
Userform.show) and now i'm stuck again.
