Reference/citations

I am trying to insert citations in 'ISO 690 - numerical style', which so far
is not an issue in itself. However, I know from using the citation function
before that once inserted, each citation becomes linked to the corresponding
reference information.

When i insert citations, they become static text. To make matters worse the
number (citation text) is always '(1)' as a result. Could somebody show me
how to make it so they are not static any more so they can be updated etc?!

Make sure your document is saved in the Word 2007 format. That is, it should
have the extension docx, not doc.
