Referenced Project

Michael A.

Hello All,

I have done something along the way whereby everytime I open Project 2007 a
particular .mpp file opens. Of course, I want to close it, when I attempt to
I get a message saying that the file can't be closed because it is referenced
by another project. When I open Tools / Links Between Projects, there aren't
any links or references at all.

Would anyone have any ideas as to what might be causing this or how I can
get around. At the moment, it looks like I need to re-install the
application which is a bit drastic.

Thanks in advance
Michael A.

Hello Michael,

Before you re-install (which may not fix the problem anyway) try a
couple of things.

You could try a detect and repair. Help > Microsoft Office
Diagnostics.

You could re-create the Global.mpt file. Exit project and search
for the Global.mpt file that is usually stored in Application Data
under your user name. Delete the Global.mpt file and restart
Project. This will cause Project to create a new Global.mpt file

There may be a macro or some code stored in your global.mpt file.
What happens if you show the Visual Basic Editor (ALT+ F11) and look
at the modules under the ProjectGlobal (Global.MPT). There are
several macros that are normally in the Global.mpt file and they
should show as:

Auxiliary
Format_Duration
Rollup_Formatting

Are there other sub procedures listed?

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.

Michael,
Let me add to Julie's suggestions. It is quite possible that the file is
corrupt due to link fragments. You might want to go to our MVP website
at, http://www.mvps.org/project/faqs.htm, and take a look at FAQ 43 -
Handling Project file corruption and/or bloat.

Hello Michael,

It appears as though there is some problem with replies not showing
correctly in this web site. Below is a copy of the reply I posted last
night. I hope this helps.

Hello Julie,

As easy as that! Just delete the Global.MPT file and start over.

Thank you.

Hi Michael,

Glad to hear the re-creation of Global.mpt did it. Thanks for the

Michael,
You're welcome although it sounds like file corruption wasn't the
problem in this case.
