References - Losing references to basic functions such as left()

Hi,

Stupid question but its driving me nuts. I develop Access front end
applications on a development workstation and then role them out to users.

However, I often find that many basic functions - usually related to strings
(such as Left() and mid() can't be found.

Simply, what reference library do I need?
