References to table without "table" text

Howdy Word experts!

I want to reference to table, but not like "Table 1" but rather "Tab.
1". This seems unimportant, but this is a real problem in all
non-english Words, since the word "Table" is declinating:
e.g. in Slovenian "this is TABELA 1" "number is in TABELI 1". (Note "A"
and "I" in the end of the word). Is this possible to do?

Thank you for your answers and best regards,

Marko

If you created a "Tab." label to begin with, then this would be easy. But if
you want to label the table "Tabela 1" and then use "Tab. 1" as a
cross-reference, you *can* do that, but it's rather tedious. Here's how:

1. Insert the cross-reference to "Tabela 1." You *must* do this first, as it
is this step that creates the bookmark around the existing table label.

2. Go back to the table caption and select just the number (without
"Tabela").

3. Open the Insert | Bookmark dialog; check the box for "Hidden bookmarks"
and select the radio button for "Location."

4. The bookmark that is highlighted is the one around your table caption.
Click on Add to reinsert the bookmark around the selected text (the number
only).

5. Go back to your cross-reference and update it with F9.

Thank you for your answer.

Isn't there any other way? Like creating parallel counter, which number
is equal to the number of table and then reference to this counter?

This is a very general problem in Slavic languages, where nominative is
different than accusative, locative e.g.. The name of table is "Tabela"
(nominative) but when you reference to table you have to write "Tabeli"
(locative).

Best regards,

Marko Pinteric.

It's possible there is another way; I have told you the only one I know.
