Referencing cells in spreadsheets in different folders

Stanley Williams

Hi,
In Excel X I have used the option to reference a cell in a different folder.
When I open the file it asks if I want open automatic links, if you say yes
it knows where they are and you do what you want to do.

In Excel 2004, however, if you say yes you have to select the files. How can
I get it to open them automatically?
Thanks,
Stan

I'm not sure what "option" you're using, nor what "you do what you want
to do" means exactly.

In either XLv.X or XL04, when I open a workbook that has links to
another file (no matter where it is), XL will find update *if* the file
is still in the location of the link (with the linked-to workbook
closed, you can see the path in the formula bar when you have a
linked-from cell selected).

In either XLv.X or XL04, if I move the linked-to file, XL will ask to
find it.

AFAICT, they work the same way. What's different for you?
