Referencing styles

I need to do footnote referencing but there is a particular format to follow.
I understand to use footnotes for the numeric reference and it also updates
the bibliography - but - Is there any way that I can customise the
referencing style to suit what I need?

Have you tried Format|Style for the 'Footnote Text' Style?

If you mean something more complex, as in the italicising of booknames but keeping other footnote text in a normal font, etc, then
no, that can't be done via a single Style definition.

Are you talking about a text formatting style (bold, underline, ...) or
rather a citation style (APA, MLA)? Guessing from your mentioning of
bibliographies, I'm expecting the latter.

In that case the answer is yes, you can create your own style.
Unfortunately, it is not all that straightforward and you do have to know
some XSLT.

.. There I tried to create a template for easier reference style creation. It
is still not a walk in the park, but it should be a lot easier.
