Reformat HTML double spaced

Why does our HTML code become double spaced after we download it from the
server?

We create our web site on a laptop and publish it using FrontPage
publishing. When we publish remote to local either back to the laptop or on
the deskpc, our html code has become double spaced.

Even after choosing Reformat HTML under the code view, if we publish the
page and then redownload it, the code becomes double spaced again. This is
driving us crazy, as the extra spacing is making the file size larger than
it should by around 7k.

The Optimize Publish HTML only has the two Generated HTML check boxes check
marked, all other are unchecked.

What could be causing this and is there a fix for it?

Try reducing the page width ( amount of characters per line ) in design
view.
It's done in site settings, Code formatting.
Set the right margin at 80 characters.
Also make sure "allow line breaks within tags" is unchecked.

Then reformat in code view and publish.

OK, we've checked both machines and all off the things you have suggested
were already setup correct.

Any other suggestions.

Well, I took another look, and it appears that it's a setting on the server
that's causing it.

To be perfectly honest, although it doesn't look that great, it does not
affect in any way how your web site appears in a browser.

I know it doesn't affect the appearance, but we do a lot of direct code
programming and it's a real pain when the code is all jumbled up and we
continuely have to reformat the HTML each time. It would make it much
easier if we did not have to do this.

Would you know what setting on the server would cause this? We are on a
dedicated server, therefore, we can make the change so it doesn't affect the
HTML coding.
