Reformatting entries in Excel 11.5.4

Arnie

I have a column of names with first name followed by the last name. Is
it possible to sort the column ending up with last name then first
name? Also can I reformat a cell so the last name is followed by the
last name?

Thanks.....Arnie

Hi Arnie;

I'm afraid your circumstance has nothing to do with formatting - it's a
matter of data entry & how the data is now stored as a result. What you need
to do is to get the first & last names extracted into 2 separate columns.
Once the data is properly stored you can sort it as you wish & present it in
any manner you prefer. To do so:

1- Insert a new column to the right of the one containing the names

2- Select the cells containing the names then go to Data> Text to Columns
[If using Excel 2007 the feature is on the Data tab of the Ribbon]

3- On the 2nd Wizard step tick the box for Space & clear the check on Tab

4- Click Finish or go on to the last step & select Text if you wish
