Confused with Office

Hi there. I am having a problem with Office 2003 Professional. When I insert
a clipart or some other kind of graphic, or put in a text box (with a colored
line around it), the screen does not refresh if I scroll up or down. If I
scroll up or down, the image looks like it goes away. If I scroll back to the
image, I can click on it (where it is blank looking) and have the bounding
box appear, but the image does not re-appear. If I make a text box, same
thing happens, but something more unusual appears; if I go in to the
properties, I cannot change the color of the line. I can click on any colored
box, but the color does not appear, the line doesn't change color. I tried
removing office and reinstalling it, then doing all the updates, but nothing
has helped. If you have any suggestions, please let me know. This isn't
happening on any of my other computers with Office 2003 Professional!

Confused,
Does it help if you drop down the Hardware Acceleration rate of your
graphics card in Display properties/Settings/Advanced/Troubleshoot (in XP)? I
have a similar issue on one of my pcs and I'm thinking it may resolve it
although I haven't had a chance to test it yet. Typically the refresh rate is
set to full so try dropping it to the 3rd notch from None.
Please post if it works.

Hi, I have the same problem - new machine - came with XP - SP2 already
installed - display either refuses to show graphics or scrolling up and down
removes the part of the image which went off screen.
Removing the video card (ATI X800) hardware accleration completely does help
as a work around but it's not much of a solution is it?
I found that the problem was more obvious if I had dictation software
running (Dragon 8 & ViaVoice10 - I bought Dragon when I thought ViaVoice was
teh problem! - I should have looked here first!)
Any other suggestions gratefully received.

This is a graphics card driver issue. Word makes surprisingly large demands
on the graphics driver. If there is no updated driver from ATI, then
reducing hardware acceleration (you are unlikely to notice the difference in
use) is the only solution for now.

Just wanted to say a big thank you for this advice. I was having the
same problem and it was driving me mad! I searched the internet to find
help, and came across your forum. I dropped the accelleration rate to
the 3rd notch - worked like a charm. I can actually see my graphics in
Word now and not have to guess where they are. THANK YOU!

As this worked, see if the manufacturer of your display adapter has an
updated driver available. I believe that fixes have been produced for the
popular offenders.
