Refreshing Linked Tables Affects Performance

Hi,

I recently upsized a database to SQL 2000. I thought everything was
working okay until I tried relinking the tables with a username on the SQL
Server who has limited permissions.
After this was accomplished, by using tabledef's everything seemed to be
working okay. I could open all of the tables and simple queries based on my
linked tables. But the more complex queries that were taking a split second
to run, were now taking about a minute. After wasting several hours trying
to figure this out I returned to a copy of the database before I changed
the SQL Server user ID. The queries ran with no problem. But, after going
to the linked table manager and refreshing all of the tables, the queries
ran extremely slow. What would take less than a second would now take 30 to
60 seconds. Does anyone have any insight into what is going on after
refreshing the linked tables?

Thank you all in advance
