Refreshing Project

I have a PDS extender that updates the project with various tasks and
resource custom fields, notes, etc. However, when the project file is
actually open (read/write), the user has no idea updates are being made from
elsewhere. Is there a way to refresh project to see the changes?

I understand that projects can be checked in/out and this would be a perfect
explanation for the above scenario, but I'm hoping that perhaps there is a
way around this.
