registry error when linking to SQL database

Hi all,
I encountered a weird error today: on a client's
machine, when I attempt to link to SQL tables from my
Access App, in the dialog box that appears, the default
selection for the "File Type" is: Registry Error (*.*).
Usually, the default selection is: Microsoft Access
Databases & Projects (*.mdb, *.mda, ...)

And, ODBC Databases () is not a selection in the drop-
down box for the File Type. Any ideas for me? I tried
re-installing Access already.
