I'm running Word XP and Adobe Acrobat 5.0 on Windows XP.
Adobe software automatically installed an "Acrobat" menu
in the Word menu bar. This extra menu is tied to Adobe PDF
Maker and shows PDF conversion options.
In addition to the "Acrobat" menu, there are 3 custom
menus that I have added to Normal.dot. These menus provide
quick access to headings, body text styles, and table text
styles that I have created.
Here is the problem: for some reason, the "Headings" menu
keeps disappearing. When I open the "Acrobat" menu,
however, I see all of the "Headings" styles, but all of
the "Acrobat" menu options are gone.
I understand that this indicates corruption in the 10.0
registry key under this path:
KEY_Current_User\Software\Microsoft\Office\10.0.
Twice, already, I have deleted this key, forcing Word to
recreate a new one. The next time that I open Word, I see
that the menus have returned to their original state. Then
I open the "Tools > Options" menu to redefine my
preferences. Upon exiting the "Options" menu, I see that
the menu corruption has returned.
This corrupt key is causing other registry keys to become
corrupt. The bulleted text styles keep changing, for
example. I reapply the original formatting, but the
changes don't hold.
I see no way to stop the 10.0 registry key from getting
corrupted, and it's fouling up the whole application. Do
you have any suggestions?
