registry policy setting

I cannot open older versions of Microsoft Word which I need, they are books
and manuals I have written. I keep getting the error registry policy setting

but when I click on file VERSIONS, it is whited out and I am unable to open
it to change the registry policy settings. Please - I am about to have back
surgery and need a quick fix - not a mess.

Visit http://support.microsoft.com/kb/938810 and use one of the
downloads under Method 1 to re-enable the file types.
