Registry Values and Group Policy

I used Group Policy Editor (local policy on workgrouped computers, no domain)
with Word07 Admin Template to set formatting options in Word. However, not
all formatting options are contained in the Admin Template.

Where can i go to get the Admin Template entries, Group Policy entries,
Registry.pol entries, or Registry entries for these missing options?

Thanks for your response,
Jim :)

I don't claim much knowledge of these settings, but it's possible that they
can't be set, either by accident or design. What are the missing ones?

Hi Tony,

Thanks for your response.

The Group Policy Admin Template for Word07 gives about 75% of the
Proofing>AutoCorrect Options. Unfortunately, the missing settings are also
what I need to control.

For example, we have a computer lab in our Business department. Using
Word07, our students can type in an Internet Hyperlink and it will show or
not show as an active link depending on the Options setting. There is no
policy in the Word07 Admin Template for Hyperlinks.

Funny as it may seem, there IS a setting for Hyperlinks in the Excel07 Admin
Template. I have looked at the Registry Entries in the resultant Registry.pol
file created when you use any of these templates. The Excel registry entries
do not follow the same naming convention as for Word07 registry entries. I
tried using the Excel settings for Word but nothing happened to control the
Hyperlink setting.

It is possible to create Admin Templates for Group Policies, but without the
Word07 registry entries for the missing options, I am stuck?

I hope that you or someone can help me.

Thank you again for your help and interest,
Jim

I wish there was an Office Profile Wizard for Office 2007. All of our
settings were captured and easily reset on the computers.

Looking back at earlier releases, fHyperlink_200_1 seems to work for that
particular example.

I suspect this is just an oversight, and probably worth raising with
Microsoft, but before I do, what else have you found to be missing? From a
quick check, this appears to be the only missing AutoCorrect option.

I have had a closer look at this and it seems to me that some of the names
of the registry entries that are present, are incorrect. Have you actually
tried to implement any policies, and, if so, do they work, or have you not
got that far yet?

Thanks for your response. Sorry for my late response.

I did some minor testing. I unchecked and saved all Word07's AutoCorrect
settings, I enabled and saved all the policies from the Word12.adm file, then
restarted the computer. Looking at the results, I estimated about 75% of the
AutoCorrect settings were checked. And yes, the Hyperlinks setting was still
unchecked.

Thanks for the tip with the fHyperlink_200_1 name. As the Excel07 value
names for the settings do not have suffixed numbers. I did not look at
previous Word version's Admin Templates to find their value names. Good idea!

Or better yet, maybe I could just grab all Word07's registry settings and
reapply them as needed using a batch file.

Your comments are greatly appreciated,

Jim

P.S. I did not want to say anything negative, but it seems whoever set up
the policies in the word12.adm file, did not look at Word Options' groupings.
The AutoCorrect policies are scattered all over the Admin Template's
groupings.

Let me say up front that I have no real-world experience of this, so could
be missing something, but it appears to me - and I have raised the issue
with Microsoft - that the Word 12 Admin templates are copies of the Word 11
Admin templates that do not reflect the changes in the underlying versions
of Word.

From what you say, I think you are seeing the same as me, so perhaps my
observations will help you get what you want, working.

As far as I can tell, the numbers in the registry value names are all that
is significant, so, for example, Thrusday_200_1 works the same as
fHyperlink_200_1.

Your estimate of 75% of values rather understates the issue, whilst my
original querying of it was based on eyeballing the templates, giving an
even greater understatement. Many of the values used in the Template have
the wrong numbers, but as the names are irrelevant, doing them en-bloc means
that you don't realise when one value is actually changing a different
setting.

With the above in mind, it seems that the following options should have
numbers 32 greater than actually used. Note that the names are not exact,
just copied from scribbled notes, I hope you can infer the meaning; also
note that this is not a complete list. I leave it up to you, how best to
apply the corrected names in your own environment.

Headings, Bullets, Numbers, First Line Indent, assorted Japanese Closing
options, Dates, Tables.

Also, I agree with you about the groupings - more generally than just here;
the various Auto-features are intertwined all over the place.
