Reinstall after Microsoft Windows XP Crash

My computer crashed after I downloaded the newest Adobe Acrobat reader (not a Microsoft product so maybe why it crashed?). One the download was complete the computer would not reboot and Windows XP had to be reloaded.

Can my old Outlook files be regained someway?

Before XP it was easy to recover and Adobe was no problem.

Please help your customers and don't worry about the other software people.
