Reinstall Office 2000 post Blaster Worm

Helen

I recently found, deleted, patched and fixed my laptop
after being 'infected'. Ever since, Office 2000 appears to
have disabled itself - its still showing as being
installed (when I check for add/remove software) but I
cannot open any office files.
I don't have any of the disks (second-hand purchase) how
can I get it back please? It's preventing me from working.
I've looked into the 'Windows Installer Cleanup Utility'
but that cannot be used; I've updated with service packs
etc.
I'm getting quite desperate!
Thanks

Not wishing to be smug, but you can be in serious difficulties when buying
new/second if you dont have all disks.
That said have you tried running eg winword.exe iether from Start/run or
from explorer?

If you have the name of the infection/virus/worm you could try looking it up
at www.symantec.com to see exactly what it does and what files it
alters/adds and thence what is required to fix/return files to origonal.
If that doesnt work I'm afraid you may well be left with no option other
than buy Office.
If buying ensure you get the right pkg, for you as there are many different
pkgs.
You could get an upgrade pkg, as you have an earlier version installed,
however if at any point you have to reinstall the upgrade, you wont be able
to unless you have access to an earlier version disk.
One thing, If you have WinXP you can try the sys.restore function to go back
to a restore point well before the infection. Ensure you update after this.
