Reinstall Office 2003 on new drive with original motherboard

My Dell laptop hard drive crashed. Dell did not provide OEM Office CDs for
recovery. I installed new drive and restored from backup but Office message
indicates no software is installed. Contacted Dell and they cannot provide
original CDs. Microsoft said they cannot provide CDs. So I purchased an OEM
replacement CD. Will installing this CD get my MS Office 2003 back up and
running?

My experience with Dell is that they provide recovery disks & software
If you purchased on OEM version of Office you can install it

When I called Dell they told me that they would not be able to supply
replacement disks. They told me that I should have called them when I
originally received my laptop 4 years ago (I did not know at that time that I
was supposed to receive them.) This information was not helpful. The new CD
is an 'OEM' version and that is what I am trying to replace my original OEM
version with. The question is, will this work as expected without any hidden
locks?

Does your new "OEM" version come with a Product Key? If so then you are
good to go. In not, do you have the Office Product Key that should have
come with your Dell in the first place? You should have a certificate of
authenticity for Office, in addition to the one stuck to your Dell, which is
for Windows.

Thanks Earle. Yes, I have a new product key and the original product key. As for a COA, all I have is the original service tag that verifies that I purchased Office from Dell to be preinstalled. The new CD I just received is shrink-wrapped and I see no evidence of a COA unless it is inside of the CD jacket. Will this be a problem? I don't want to open the CD in case I need to send it back.

It sounds as if you have the Office product key that came with the copy of
Office originally installed on your Dell. This should work just fine with
your OEM replacement CD. The new product key should too. I just looked at
my retail copy of Office 2003 and it had a yellow sticker with the product
key and a barcode in place of the COA.
