1) Download the hard drive manufacturer's maintenance utility and verify
that the hard drive is ok. The real question here is why did this file
disappear? A lockup can cause that, but... better safe than sorry.
2) Try to boot up in Safe Mode.
3) Boot to a command prompt and see if you can find the file on the hard
drive. If not, try to copy it from another computer with the same operating
system. Place it in the same location it is in on the other computer. I
don't show that file on my computer (WinXP SP2), but since it is a .vxd
file, I'm assuming you're running Win9x (not necessarily, but probable).
4) Try reinstalling the driver for the device that the driver is used for.
5) If you are no longer using the device, the item may have been mistakenly
left in the registry. If so, open Regedit, do a search on the file name, and
delete the entry where you find it. Caution, this MAY cause your computer to
not boot, depending on what the driver is for. If you're not comfortable
editing the registry, DON'T. Backup and safety precautions apply to doing
this.
6) Go to the newsgroup for your version of Windows, they can probably help
you better. This group is for the Access database program.
