I got Windows Vista and installed it today. Previously I had Windows XP
installed. When it was installed, my sound does not work, nor does my
dial-up modem work???? I need help figuring out what do do next. Shouldn't
these cards (modem and sound card) be recognized automatically? The version
of Windows Vista I installed is Ultimate.

Possibly not. If they are non-standard devices Microsoft may not have been
supplied drivers for those devices by the manufacturer, especially if they
are more than about 3-4 years old. If you know the manufacturers of the
devices, log onto their web sites (or if a PC available from a relatively
major manufacturer the manufacturer's web site) and see if they have Vista
drivers available for those devices. If not, you will either have to buy
new devices or go back to XP.
