reinstalling fp 2003

P

Pam

Ok, I had to reformat and therefore am reinstalling everything (will not
download sp 2 again..that's for sure!)

I've installed xp office and then upgraded to my fp 2003 ... I've also
installed IIS thru control panel and when I open IIS it says Web
Sites/Default Web Site and Default SMTP Virtual Server/domains/current
sessions

I guess what I'm looking for is the old format? When I used to open fp and
click file opensite it would go to the box that listed LOCALHOST ... now
under network places it only says Entire Network and My Web sites on MSN

how do I set up the locahost again? I have saved all my websites to a
another hard drive and will pull them in or open live once I get this
fixed -

thanks!

If IIS is installed and running, localhost should be automatic when you publish to
http://localhost/webname
or http://usename/webname.

As for adding them to My Network places, you should be able to do that within FP. But it should do
it automatically when you publish.

So let me see if I understand you correctly - I open fp and then open the
site on my backup drive and then publish to localhost? and then it will show
up under the network places? correct?

thanks

ok, I opened a website from one I had saved before I reformatted - published
to http://localhost/domainname - which worked well, it put localhost on the
computer and now when I look at network places, it shows up

now my question is this - when I want to open my websites and then publish
to the net - should I be opening them from LOCALHOST or from MY WEBS ...
what's the difference?

You should now always use localhost. Since you have re-installed FP, you will need to do complete
publish the first time. Suggest you open the live/remote site and publish that to
http://localhost/domainname (without .com, .net, etc.) then make any additional changes, then you
can republish using the Change Pages only option.
