I recently had a problem where another program, Dragon
NaturallySpeaking, caused an issue with Microsoft Word. I was forced to
uninstall the Microsoft Office suite through the add/remove programs
function. I then went to reinstall the office suite. The product key
was entered, and the installation began. At about 5% on a progress bar,
the program was looking for the cabinet file L2561403.cab. I then got
the message that that required installation file could not be found, and
to insert my installation disk. Of course, it was loading off of the
installation disk.
I attempted to copy the installation disk onto my hard drive, but when
it got to the same file L2561403.cab, it told me it could not be copied,
and the copying programs ceased. I can find the file when exploring the
installation disk, but during installation or the copying process, it
cannot be found.
I also looked, and there are files associated with office 2003 still on
the computer, even though I removed it. If I go into program files,
Microsoft Office, Office 11, there are files in there. If I find the
WinWord.exe icon and double-click it, Microsoft Word 2003 opens, but
then I get a message "Microsoft office Word has not been installed for
the current user. Please run setup to install the application." the
same thing happens with PowerPoint and Excel. The program opens up, but
then I get the error message that it has not been installed.
I tried downloading and using the Microsoft uninstall install utility.
But when I run it, the Microsoft office suite does not appear in the
list of programs installed.
So I'm stuck with files on my system that can't be used, and can't
install my office suite programs. Can anybody out there help me? At
this point, I have downloaded and am using open office. But it bugs me
that I paid for the office suite, and can't reinstall it, after
following instructions on how to remove programs.
