Reinstalling Microsoft Office

Sounderdog

I currently own Microsoft Office Professional 2007. Until now, it was
installed and validated on my personal computer. However, when my computer
had a sudden hard drive failure, it became necessary to reinstall the
software on another computer. My problem is that Microsoft tells me that my
product license is expired because it thinks it is still in use on the
crashed computer. How can I get Microsoft to see my problem and let me
transfer the license from one computer to the other?

Any help is greatly appreciated,

Eric

Is this a retail or an OEM (original equipment manufacturer) copy of Office? What happens if you try the telephone method?

I believe it is a retail copy, and I have not tried the telephone. I hate
talking to those people in India and I wanted to do that as a last resort.
But, do you think they would be able to help me if I talked to them in person?

When you call the activation telephone number, first of all you will be
talking to a computer :)
Only if this process fails as well, you will be redirected to a real person.
I have to call this number quite often, as it is part of my everyday
business, and I never had problems with these people (they are all very
friendly from what I know ;-)). Only the connection quality sometimes is
quite bad, because apparently they are using VoIP connections. But hey...
calling the number should be free of charge (depends on where you are
located), so it doesn't cost you anything to give it a try, does it?

One tip: If the automatic (computer voice) process fails and you are being
redirected to a person, they will not ask you for your name (for the process
has to be anonymous) but at most for what you think is the reason the
automatic activation didn't work. Tell them the truth and they will gladly
hand you back over to a computer voice which will now give you a key that is
going to activate your Office.

All the best ;-)
Andre

P.S.: Hey, if you want to, ask them, where they are located. I bet, it's not
India - last time I had somebody in Australia on the line :-O ;-)
