I am attempting to reinstall Office 2000 Pro (on a Dell P5-
166 running Win 2K Pro - albeit slowly) machine that had
the same licensed media installed previously (I was
attempting to correct a glitch related to the error
message "This patch package could not be opened. Contact
the application vendor to verify there is a valid Windows
installer patch package.")
For whatever reason, the Add/Remove programs feature did
not show Office CD1 or CD2 although these were likely
removed when I was working with the MSICUU.EXE clean-up
utility. So, I found 2 MS Knowledge Base articles
describing how to manually completely remove Office Pro
CD1 and CD2. This I did, including editing the registry
to delete Office 9.0 from Microsoft\software\ under
CURRENT_USER and CURRENT_MACHINE.
When I try to run Set-up for Office 2000, I get the
following error message in the set-up dialog after
entering the product key (correctly). "This is an invalid
key. Please check..."
Any ideas?
