reinstalling Office 97 Professional

I have a legitimately purchased CD ROM version of the
above, and of couse its 20 digit number, but in a recent
move I have lost the original box it came in.
I wish to reenter it to my desktop, but the instructions
ask for an "eleven digit number on the box", which I do
not have.
How can I either get this number, or do without it, yet
still get the program entered?

I am retired, and cannot afford to either loose the use
of what I had to save to purchase. nor to pay Microsoft
fot the service charge.

Hi, JL,

If it's a store-retail (boxed) copy you can contact MS (800) 360-7561 [or
http://microsoft.com/worldwide]

If it's an OEM copy, contact the company that preinstalled it on the
computer. The OEM
supplier is responsible for supporting the copies they install.
