Reinstalling OfficePro 2003 after re-installing XP....

Andrea

I do hope someone can help! I've looked through other threads and none seem
to address this problem.

I recently had to reinstall Windows XP (long story). All the MS Office files
are there but I can't "get at" them - I get a message saying "Not registered
to thiss user".

I've tried reinstalling Office but I get an "Invalid Licence Key" message.
Now, I've got as far as finding out that this is because there is a version
already installed...the advice is to uninstall it.

However, I can't uninstall it properly because it doesn't show up on the
program list.

I don't want to delete the existing version manually as I know this causes
all kind of problems, so will it be easier to "re-connect" the original
installation?

Any ideas how?

Many thanks :)

So how did you "re-install" Windows XP? If you really DID "re-install" there
would be NO Office files there at all until you installed Office from your
Office CD because the XP CD does NOT contain Office.
So what did you REALLY do?

Hi Gordon (not sure if I should post at top or bottom) thanks for your reply.

First of all I tried to use the disc to repair the original XP installation,
but that didn't work.

Then I tried a full install, and I have to admit that I was surprised that
everything wasn't wiped, incluing Office.

(BTW the XP reinstallation did solve the problem it was supposed to solve,
which is something)

So I suspect that you now have two installs of XP.
Did you tell the XP install to format the HDD? (I suspect not......)

" Did you tell the XP install to format the HDD? (I suspect not......)"

You know what? You are dead right :)

The answer then (unfortunately) is to re-do the whole thing.
Backup any data you might have, boot from the XP CD and do a clean install,
re-formatting the HDD.
Then when you re-install Office, there should be no problems!

Good luck!
