Reinstalling Word if things are getting just generally buggie?

Too often lately, my Word 2002 just gets generally troublesome. For
instance, it takes extraordinarily long for it to take a paste of new text
from clipboard; it may hang or make other programs run slowly if it's just
one of the app's running. It may start to seem halting if many files are
open simultaneously ("Document 3" and so forth)
I believed that my PC getting old would make it less versatile and capable
in the latest tasks, but not make it falter doing old familiar tasks--that
is, I believed until recently! Would someone comment... Is reinstalling Word
and option? (Not that I'd know how or even readily find my Office software
CD, but theoretically...)

Uninstalling/reinstalling Office is usually a total waste of time. If you
are noticing a knock in performance, then there are several possible
reasons. The problem with copy/paste suggests that the temp folder may be
clogged up. See http://www.gmayor.com/what_to_do_when_word_crashes.htm for
some steps to clean out the abandoned temp files.

You may also have a partially corrupt printer driver or partially corrupt
normal.dot.

Then there is always the case that Windows does tend to get bogged down over
a period of time, depending on how hard you use it. Maybe just cleaning up
the computer's temp folder (link above) and making sure that you have all
the drivers, bios, etc up to date and both Windows and Office patched up to
date will resolve the problems.

If not, it may be time to backup your important documents and email and do a
fresh install from the ground up (reformatting the driver, fresh install).
