I am unable to create a relative link in PowerPoint 2001 - do you think
there is something wrong with the installation of PowerPoint 2001 on my
computer?

I am unable to create a relative link - PowerPoint 2001 does not let me do
it. There is always a path and I have no way of removing the path (it is
greyed out and I cannot access it)

PowerPoint 98 was easy - all I had to do is click on "use relative
link for hyperlink" button, this would remove the path (the file name was
the only thing that appeared) - PowerPoint 2001 does not have this button.

Thanks,
Rock

What kind of file do you need to create a relative link to, and exactly how are
you going about it? Different types of files follow different rules.

once your hyperlink is set, select the object or text that triggers
it, control click and in the popup list select edit hyperlink from
there you can freely edit the path

Hi Rock,

I had no trouble creating a relative hyperlink in PPT 2001.

First I created a folder for the presentation and for the file I linked to.

Then I saved my presentation into that folder.

Then I selected an autoshape.

Then I used Insert > Hyperlink and on the Document tab I clicked Select.

I navigated to the file in the folder that I wanted to link to.

PowerPoint then created a relative link to that file.

The key things:
The item being linked to was in the same folder as the presentation before I
linked to it. The presentation itself was also already in the folder before
I created the hyperlink.

You can not create a relative link beyond the same folder. That would have
to be a fully qualified path name.

FYI in PowerPoint 2004 you can link to content that is not in the same
folder then use the new Save As PowerPoint Package to save in a folder.
PowerPoint will copy the linked content to the folder and create relative
links to that content so you can distribute the folder and the presentation
with relative links.

Thanks a lot! I was trying to change the hyperlink on a PPT that was
already made, and at this point, I am unable to change the hyperlink to be
relative links.
I, therefore, to redo a hyperlink and tried what you have suggested and this
works!! I guess this means I would have to redo all of the hyperlinks in my
document, right?
