Hi Matt,
Keep in mind that since you're posting PPS files, they're
being pulled down into the cache on the local computer.
I'm sure that's got something to do with it, but I can't
find anything definitive about why it's ok with 2002 and
not with 2000/97. Look at this faq:

Also from the www.pptfaq.com site:
Other things that make links break
Grouping: If you apply links and action settings to shapes
in PowerPoint 2000 (or later) and then group the shapes,
the links still work in slide show view. When you play the
same presentation back in PowerPoint 97 or the Viewer, the
links don't work. Neither PPT97 nor the Viewer can "see"
links within groups.
Path Length: In at least some versions of PowerPoint,
links to sounds (and possibly other file types) will break
if the total path to the file ( ie, the C:\My Documents\My
Sounds\My Sounds Of My Baby\Gurgling\GooGooGahGah.WAV ) is
longer than 122 characters. Thank you, Frank, for the four
otherwise wasted hours it took you to research this. The
rest of you, blow a kiss in Frank's direction for saving
you hours of stress.

a strange issue when a client tries to access the site
with Office 2000 and 97: Hyperlinks that link to relative
files try to find them on the clientâ?Ts local machine.
For example, a link that looks like â?ofile.htmâ? (a file
in the same directory), would be changed to:
you reach the large â?oClick Hereâ? linkâ?"the is the
link that only works on computers with new versions of
office).
