In Excel, there are relative paths to links. Basically, if I save a link
within a file, and then open it up on someone else's computer, or transfer
the housing tree directory to some other part of the system, the link still
works, because it looks to its immediate surroundings to find the same path
that it had when saved.
I use three computers, and synch the notebook between each one. The path
(just by virtue of different drive letters) ends up being different on each,
rendering the links that are created with files (and there are the links that
are planned for ON'07) useless.
Suggestion to adopt an Excel-style "smart" set of links, that move with the
structure. Granted, you'll have some that get destroyed if you move things
around within any particular substructure that houses a set of links, but if
all else stays the same and the relative paths are similar once moved, should
be able to find it. Worst case, should give you the "browse for" dialogue so
you can find the directory, and have the name find itself within a folder
once you get to it.
