Entourage often goes into a fugue state - a relentless spinning wheel
that continues as long as I'll let it. Process viewer shows Entourage
consuming from 80% to 97% of CPU time during this period. I can't do
anything in Entourage or even bring an Entourage window to the front
if it's behind another running app. Force quitting is the only thing
that returns it. This can happen even when I'm doing nothing but
reading a message.
Two other small odd behaviors, probably unrelated but included just in
case they provide clues for somebody wiser than I: (1) when it checks
for new mail (IMAP) the selection in the inbox will often jump around,
switching the message that I am currently reading in the main window.
(b) it purges deleted messages on its own, even though I have set the
preferences to the contrary.
I'm running Entourage 10.1.4 on OS 10.2.8. Suggestions?
