reliable file transfer

DC Gringo

Groups,

We have some remote offices with lower bandwidth connections. They find FTP
reliable but the multiple file upload tool in SharePoint 2007 less so.

1) Will SharePoint doc libraries accept an FTP upload?
2) Will Groove synchronization provide a more reliable transfer of data
files?

Question 1; No to FTP, but they will accept an email attachment if
configured for incoming emails.

to yr point 2, yes groove sync is a reliable way to move files and works
pretty well (fast) even with low bandwidth

I am very interested in the first part of your question.
Can we use FTP for SharePoint.

One reply indicates that you cannot but I have found (although still working
on it) that this is possible with "out-of-the-box" functionality.

How:
- Use IIS / FTP and redirect to a location on another server
- Specify this location as \\servername\sitename\subnameor whatever you need
(my example is for a Picture Library called BlogPix on the server called
Server under a subsite called NS and the redirect location is
"\\server\ns\blogpix")

Problem so far:
I am still trying to work out why this works using IIS5 on Windows XP as the
FTP Server but not on IIS6 on a Win2K3 server. If someone knows it will save
me a lot of effort.

FYI - my reason for this is to enable the use of Live Writer as a blogging
tool for WSS3 and I needed to provide an FTP service to publish the pictures
as WSS3 doesn't support picutre publishing via Blogging tools (at least that
I am aware of)

Please let me know if this is of any use to you.
