Relink Front End to Back End

Carrie

Hi, I created a database awhile back and recently had to move to a new
computer where the drives/folders are not the same. I have a front end and a
back end and I zipped each file to drop them to disk. I now have the zipped
files on the new computer and can open the back end but when I try to open
the front end, it is looking for the old path and will not allow me to open
it. How can I correct this?

Thanks

Carrie,

From your front-end file, try going to Tools|Database Utilities|Linked
Table Manager. If this utility is installed (it is not installed by
default with Access ... Grrr!), you will be able to use this. Tick the
'Always prompt for new location' checkbox, click 'Select All', click
'OK', and then browse to the new location of your backend file.

If the Linked Table Manager is not installed, probably the easiest way
is to delete all the linked tables from the Tables tab of the Database
Window, and then go via the File|Get External Data|Link Tables menu, and
re-link to the backend from there.

Hold the Shift key down while you open the front end file. Then go to Tools
| Database Utilities | Linked Table Manager. Be sure to select the checkbox
"prompt for new location" and then select all the tables. Continue with the
wizard's actions.
