Remaining Hours problem - Need Urgent help

E

elenoir

Hello!
We update the projects by entering a number of actual hours and the
resources also have an option of adjusting remaining hours if there are any
changes. I am having a problem when resources try to change the remaining
hours. For example, I have a duration set for 3 days (24 hours), my resource
puts in 8 hours for the task and changes the remainder to 5 hours instead of
16. After this update published to the project, my project plan shows
correctly 5 hours remaining and 62% complete, meanwhile the resource's task
menu shows that he only has 1 hour remaining and 92% complete. What could be
causing this? It's the only resource on this task and on the tasks with
remaining work staying the same we didn't have any issues - the remaining
hours and % complete in the project plan matched what the resource has in its
task view.
Any help is really appreciated. Thanks a lot!

After you accept updates into your project plan, do you click Collaborate -
Publish - All Information to "push" the latest changes to PWA?

Dale,
I did that. Weird thing - when I go to look at the project in "Project
Center" in PWA, it matches the values from my project plan. But when
resources go to their tasks view, the information is different, it only
differs in task view. Any suggestions? Thank you!

What happens if you click Collaborate - Publish - Republish Assignments,
select the "Overwrite actual work entered by resources" option, and then
click OK? Does this "synch up" the project information?

Dale,
I have done it and it synch the remaining hours in the tasks but not %
complete. It's almost like it's being calculated differently. What could be
causing it? Thanks!

Dale,
I just wanted to add that % complete calculated in PWA in tasks is correct
as oppose to the % complete in the project plan.

Dale,
Yes, it is the only resource assigned to the task. I don't know what's
happening... How is % complete being calculated in Project Professional?

% Complete is calculated as Actual Duration/Duration. Does this information
help?

Dale,
This solved my problem. I had % complete column in the plan and % work
complete in the timesheets of resources. Thanks a lot for you help! Do you
have to republish assignements very time to make sure that it synchs with the
entries in PWA?

Thanks for your patience in working with me to solve your problem. In the
end, I think I led you to discover the solution yourself. Way to go! :)

You only need to republish assignments if you manually enter progress in the
Microsoft Project plan and want to "push" the actuals to each user's
timesheet in PWA. If you update the project with actual progress using the
Updates page in PWA, you simply need to click Collaborate - Publish - All
Information after you have completed the updates process. Hope this helps.
